COUNTRY PROFILE


Cambodia is located in the continent of Asia, it shares land borders with three countries: Thailand, Vietnam and Lao. Nom Pen is the capital and it is the largest city of cambodia, the population is about 16.062,829 million of people and the largest ethnic group in Cambodia are the Khmers, who comprise around 90% of the total population in Cambodia. The weather is tropical, with warm temperature the most part of the time because it’s located in the equator line, there are much biodiversity.







People are friendly and they have a lovely smile, despite of his challenges about poverty and natural needs. They listen Cambodian popular music, this is performed with western style instruments or a mixture of traditional and western instruments, a very important singers are Sinn Sisamouth and Ros Sereysothea since 1960s to the 1970s they are considered the classic pop music of cambodia.



They practice three martial arts but the most popular is the Pradal Serey, this is a combat sport, it consists of four types of strikes: punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes.










Cambodia is a country with many festivals but the most important are:


PCHUM BEN is celebrated in October and remember the return of the ancestors, the spirits of family.

NEW YEAR KHMER It is the largest festival of Cambodia, it is celebrated in April for three days.

WATER FESTIVAL is celebrated in November to the shore of Tonle Sap Lake in Phnom Penh, to see the colorful boats.

Theravada Buddhism is the official religion of Cambodia, practised by more than 95 percent of the population with an estimated 4,392 monastery temples throughout the country.

Key concepts in Cambodian Buddhism include reincarnation, and religious activities are focused on acquiring, and erasing, which, for Khmers,

means the negative results accrued from past actions.
